New 20-shot PBs this week were scored by Leilani Fam 188.05 and Mila Ballara 179.00, while Mila also shot a new 10-shot PB of 93.2.

The best five D Grade scores were shot by Wiko du Toit 96.3, Sarah May 95.2, Georgia Karantze 94.2, Mila Ballara 93.2 and Shambhavi Choudhury 93.1.  Mark Riley top scored in C Grade with 98.6, and Summer O’Dwyer did best in B Grade with 100.4.  In A Grade Beckz Gibbs was highest with 100.5, and Michael Grain had the best Master Grade score of 99.7.  In the 20-shot competition Dianne Grain’s 199.10 was the top score this week.

The Wellington v Christchurch junior match was held on Tuesday.  Good to see our juniors putting their names forward for these representative matches – in fact the entire Wellington squad (10 shooters) were Brooklyn members.  The Littles battled it out to be top shot, with Ross finishing three inners ahead of Erin.  Christchurch finished three points ahead of Wellington.

And five of the seven women in the Wellington v Christchurch and Manawatu women’s match were from our club.  Top shot was Meredith Ackrill with Summer O’Dwyer only two inners lower.  The Christchurch results gave a five-point win to our team – Manawatu results won’t be available until the end of the season.

The first round of the Triple S secondary schools competition has now been completed.  This is a nationwide competition, organised and run by Brooklyn members Evan Little and Mark Robinson.  The competition comprises four rounds, two in each of Terms 2 and 3, with the last round being a 20-shot target.  Participants compete as individuals in their TSNZ grade and in school teams (five per team with the best four scores in each round counting for the team total).  Results can be viewed on the club website: http://www.bsrc.org.nz/index.php/ssc/56-new-zealand-secondary-schools-shooting-championship-sss-champs.  This year there is a record number of shooters competing – 152 and the standard of shooting is extremely good.  Highest Brooklyn shooters in each grade are currently Summer O’Dwyer (12th overall and 6th in B Grade), Luisa Kristen and Neakiry Kivi (17th equal in C Grade), and Georgia Karantze (4th equal in D Grade).  All four are part of the Marsden #1 team, which is currently in 8th equal position out of 27 teams, while Wellington College #1 are 13th.  The deadline for Round 2 targets is Sunday 10 July.

Round 2 results of the Wellington closed champs are now available.  Georgia Karantze’s 98.5 (new PB) moves her up four places to lead D Grade while Wiko du Toit moves up to 3rd position.  Summer O’Dwyer’s 98.2 takes her to 2nd place (on countback) in B Grade, only two inners behind the leader.  There was a bit of juggling of positions in A Grade – now being led by Dianne Grain, with David Grain in 2nd position and Ross Little 3rd.  Meredith Ackrill remains in 2nd place in Master Grade, and is now leading the women’s section, ahead of Dianne Grain in 2nd place.  The top places have switched around in the junior section as well – Summer O’Dwyer now leads, followed by Ross Little, Georgia Karantze and Jess Fair who are only inners apart.  The deadline for Round 3 targets is Sunday 3 July.

Round 3 of the interclub competition was held last night.  All our matches were shot against Wellington Central and were extremely close, with either one, two or three points separating the teams.  Our C Grade team improved on their previous round score by five points; however Central won the match by two points.  Top shot was Mark Riley with 95.4.  In our B Grade match, both teams shot well with Brooklyn winning by three points.  Summer O’Dwyer’s 100.4 also gave the team vital bonus points.  And our Open Grade team had the closest battle of all, winning by a mere point in a very tightly contested match.  Meredith Ackrill was top shot for Brooklyn with 197.14.  Brooklyn has a bye in all grades in the next round on Thursday 7 July.

The Wellington Open Champs are being held on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 July.  Brooklyn is rostered to run the champs from 10am until 1pm on the Saturday.  We need as many members as possible to assist during this time – target preparation and changing, marking, check marking, scorekeeping, kitchen duties, coaching and range officering.  And of course we need our members to support our association by competing in the champs as well.  A club roster of tasks will be available in the next few weeks, but please add this date to your diaries now.

Next Sunday, between the afternoon session and dinner, the club will undertake its rostered cleaning duties of the range and social area.  Please bring cleaning equipment, particularly buckets, cleaning cloths, and mops.  The more people able to assist with this, the quicker the task will be accomplished.
