Wellington were successful in Round 2 of the National District Champs (NDC) competition held on Thursday against Canterbury, scoring wins in both the junior and composite sections as well as gaining a bonus point for the best overall score. This places Wellington 3rd equal on the points table with Taranaki; however leader Manawatu along with Taranaki have already shot their double-header rounds which means they have completed three matches against Wellington’s two matches. Wellington’s double-header round is on 28 June. Congratulations to Meredith Ackrill on being named in the top five shooters in Division 1 with a score of 298.8. Wellington will face the mighty Waikato in Round 3 on Thursday 7 June.
Another very busy day at the club yesterday with around 30 people. Please remember to do your bit to help with running the club; everyone can assist somewhere – newer shooters should be helping set up, target changing and learning to mark, more experienced members should be assisting with range officering, coaching and offering advice to newer shooters. Don’t wait to be asked, get involved.
Our club is on cleaning duties this month, which will be undertaken next Sunday between 7.30pm and 8.00pm. Please bring buckets, mops and cleaning cloths, and an extra vacuum cleaner or two would be greatly appreciated. The more helpers we have, the quicker the task will be accomplished. Squad 1 will start 15 minutes earlier than usual at 6.15pm next week.
Meredith Ackrill and Evan Little both recorded 197.12, the best score in the 20-shot competition, while B Grader Mark Riley was only a couple of points lower at 195.9. David Grain shot well with 99.6 and 99.7, the top score in the higher grades, while Evan Little also scored 99.6. Iain Mackay’s 96.5 was best in B Grade, and Anna Hooper was top shot in C Grade with 96.4, just inners ahead of Amalamo Simi on 96.0. In D Grade, the best scores were recorded by Chris Lockery 96.5, Emily Lockery 94.1, and Nathan Chamberlain 90.2. And Mike Williams recorded a new PB this week – well done!
A reminder that Wellington Smallbore Rifle Association are running a target marking course on Friday 25 May at 7pm. If you are interested in learning more about the marking procedure, and would like to attend this WSRA-funded course, please contact the WSRA Secretary, Bev Newton.
All secondary school students are involved in a nationwide competition run by our club (Triple S Champs). This competition is similar to the closed champs competition but involves four rounds rather than six. Targets have been prepared and are located on the table under the scoreboard. The deadline for Round 1 is Sunday 10 June.
TSNZ membership cards will be distributed to our new shooters next week. Keep these in a safe place as they are needed when entering various competitions.
